Mr. CADL Goes to Washington

With election fever gripping the nation, you might want a little distraction with some good political drama and comedy. No matter what side you are on, you will enjoy these political movies.

At the top of most lists and certainly at the top of mine is the classic 1939 film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Jimmy Stewart plays a freshman senator who starts out full of energy and hope, but is soon battling powerful corruption. To prepare for the heart wrenching final scene in the Senate chamber, the actor dried out his throat with bicarbonate of soda. Jean Arthur is also wonderful as his assistant.

Jumping to the 1970’s, All The President’s Men tells the riveting story of the Watergate scandal from the perspectives of the journalists who broke the story:  Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. A great all- star cast, including Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman and Oscar winner Jason Robards (Best Supporting Actor). Even though you know the story, it’s riveting and suspenseful.
