Fall Is in the Air and In Your DVD/Blu-Ray Player

Time for Fall movies! Here are some you might enjoy:

October Sky: This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is the true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes.  He became a rocket scientist.  The soundtrack is wonderful.

Gosford Park: If you liked Downtown Abbey you will like this film written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes. At an Autumn hunting party weekend in 1932, the head of an English country estate is murdered. The lives of upstairs guests and downstairs servants are portrayed. The all-star cast includes Downton’s Maggie Smith.

Remember the Titans: Based on a true story, a Virginia high school becomes integrated and African American coach Herman Boone becomes head coach over the former white head coach Bill Yoast. Great performances by Denzel Washington and Will Patton.

The Four SeasonsAlan Alda’s hilarious and thoughtful take on marriage and family relationships.  The Autumn portion deals with the aftermath of divorce and taking kids to college.

Other fall standouts:

  • Good Will Hunting A working-class genius who’s failing the lessons of life is mentored by a psychology professor. Oscars for Robin Williams, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
  • Autumn Sonata An international concert pianist visits her grown daughter after a seven-year absence.
  • The Perfect Storm George Clooney is the captain of a fishing boat hauling in a quarter-million-dollar’s worth of fish. Unfortunately, it lands right in the path of one of the most terrifying and fantastic storms of the century.
  • The Spitfire Grill  A young woman who has just been released from prison takes a job in the only restaurant in a small Maine town and works to gain the trust of the townspeople.
  • State and Main The citizens of a small Vermont town are overwhelmed when a big-budget motion picture crew begins filming on location.

Your Autumn films are waiting @ Find Movies.
